Vintage Hindu Vishvakarma Print Original Frame
(approx 580x420mm)
Vintage framed print of Vishvakarma (or Vishvakarman), a craftsman deity and the divine architect of the devas in contemporary Hinduism. Imported from India, the framed picture dates from the mid 20th century, and is in completely original condition. It has been skillfully embellished with many sequins.
Worship of the murti, the sacred image, is central to Hinduism. Many of the nineteenth century reform movements rejected the practice as outdated and superstitious. Nonetheless, sacred-image worship remains central today in helping Hindus establish, express and enhance their relationship with these divinities. This beautiful framed print was once perceived as not just an image of a God, it was a God - a God incarnate in his printed image.
