Antique Satyr Staffordshire Jug (19th Century)
£76.00
Antique hand painted Satyr/Bacchus Staffordshire Pearlware jug with orange lustre
(13.5cm high)
This is a fantastic piece of Victorian psychedelia - accurately described by a friend as a Toby Jug on acid!
The body is not too thick, and it is decorated with an orange lustre glaze with brightly coloured embossed circles, and with vivid detail on the face.
Condition wise, there is some paint wear - see photos, some glaze wear on the rim and handle, and some tiny nibbles on the spout. There is also some discoloration inside and a bit on the base. But otherwise it’s incredibly well preserved for a fragile piece that is nearly 200 years old, with no other damage and no crazing.
